Experimental and Numerical Analysis of Pile–Rock Interaction Characteristics of Steel Pipe Piles Penetrating into Coral Reef Limestone

چکیده

In order to study the characteristics of pile–rock action steel pipe driven pile in coral reef limestone stratum, at China–Maldives Friendship Bridge site was selected carry out indoor physical and model tests with red sandstone as control group. The test outcomes indicate following: (1) when substantial deformation is permitted, has a considerable strength dispersion, low post-peak stress decrease rate, high residual strength, roughly 30% peak strength; (2) penetrates limestone, top load shows an obvious sawtooth shape, increase penetration depth, end high-porosity rock sample gradually decreases, low-porosity increases; (3) penetrated, strain value about twice that same position from pile. These findings porosity heterogeneity cementation make extrusion effect during piling significantly less than sandstone. addition, process numerically simulated using four-dimensional discrete spring method based on multi-body damage criterion. numerical simulation results further demonstrate pile-side fragmentation primary reason for lower bearing capacity piles stratums. This provides novel approach studying mechanical properties limestone. can serve guide design construction stratum.

Dynamic Characteristics of Joined Steel and Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastic Tubes: Experimental and Numerical Investigation

The fundamental frequencies and mode shapes of steel and carbon fiber–reinforced plastic (CFRP) cylindrical shells with steel inserts were investigated using finite element analysis and modal testing. The free-free boundary condition was tested with modal testing using the roving hammer method and verified by finite element analysis using ABAQUS. The results show good agreement between the test...

Experimental biology of coral reef ecosystems

Coral reef ecosystems are at the crossroads. While significant gaps still exist in our understanding of how ‘‘normal’’ reefs work, unprecedented changes in coral reef systems have forced the research community to change its focus from basic research to understand how one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world works to basic research with strong applied implications to alleviate damage, sav...

Numerical Investigation of Vortex Interaction in Pipe Flow

To discover the nonlinear characteristics of pipe flow, we simulated the flow as a sum of many vortex rings. As a first step, we investigated the nonlinear interaction among a maximum of three vortex rings. The pipe wall was replaced by many bound vortices. A free vortex ring moves right or left according to the radius, and that of a particular radius keeps the initial position. The energy of a...
